Experience Required : Qualification: Graduate Engineer with 10 -15 years of experience -Mechanical stream · Certifications: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or AWS QC1 / CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 is typically required. · NDT Knowledge: level 2 - (PT, MT, UT, RT). · Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of metallurgy, specifically relating to dilution, heat input, and the corrosion resistance properties of stainless steels and nickel alloys. · Code Literacy: Proficiency in ASME BPVC Section IX (Welding), ASME B31.3 (Piping), and API 6A/17D (Wellhead/Subsea). · Equipment Familiarity: Experience with automated welding equipment (GTAW/GMAW). · Years of Experience: 10-15 yrs
Job Description :
1. Before Overlay (Pre-Welding Inspection)
· Material Verification: Verify Mill Test Reports (MTRs) for base materials (pipes/fittings) and CRA filler materials (e.g., Inconel 625, Stainless Steel 316L) to ensure compliance with specifications.
· Surface Preparation: Inspect the base metal for cleanliness, ensuring it is free of rust, oil, and contaminants. Verify proper sandblasting or grinding (often Sa2.5 or better).
· WPS/PQR Review: Verify that the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) are approved and appropriate for the base material and overlay thickness.
· Welder Qualification: Check that welders are qualified to perform the specific automated or manual cladding process.
2. During Overlay (In-Process Inspection)
· Welding Parameters Monitoring: Ensure strict adherence to welding parameters (voltage, amperage, travel speed) to control heat input and dilution, which is critical for maintaining chemical composition.
· Preheat/Interpass Temperature: Monitor and record preheat and interpass temperatures to prevent hydrogen cracking.
· Visual Inspection: Monitor the weld bead profile, ensuring proper overlap and cleaning between passes to avoid slag inclusion.
· Thickness Mapping: Check the thickness of the overlay in critical areas (e.g., sealing faces, gasket contact areas) to ensure minimum thickness requirements are met.
3. After Overlay (Post-Welding Inspection)
· Visual Examination: Inspect for cracks, porosity, lack of fusion, and undercut.
· Dye Penetrant Testing (PT): Perform or witness liquid penetrant testing to identify surface-breaking cracks, specifically on clad surfaces.
· Ultrasonic Testing (UT): Verify the bond between the cladding and base material (detecting un-fused or disbonded areas).
· Positive Material Identification (PMI): Perform PMI to verify the chemistry of the overlayed surface meets the alloy specification.
· Hardness/Ferrite Testing: Test for hardness to ensure compliance with NACE or other sour-service requirements.
· Dimensional Checks: Verify final dimensions, including flange face finish and thickness, after machining.
4. Documentation and Reporting
· Weld Tracking: Maintain detailed records of which welder worked on which fitting (weld traceability).
· Non-Conformance Reports (NCR): Raise NCRs for any non-conforming items and monitor repairs.
· Turnover Dossier: Compile all reports (visual, NDT, PMI, hardness) into a final inspection package for client approval.
